LIFE TOGETHER
THE DAY TOGETHER
In this chapter, Bonhoeffer talks about a day in the life of the Christian community. He spends most of the chapter talking about the Common Devotions (morning devotions) of the community. There are three basic ingredients:
SCRIPTURE READING
Psalms: we learn
what prayer means
what we should pray, and
how to pray as a fellowship.
Old Testament/New Testament
Read whole books, not just portions
We learn a bigger reality and our own history
SONG
Singing together is the voice of the church
It is NOT the voice of individuals, but of community
PRAYER
Have one pray for all
Focus on community needs
PUTTING IT IN ACTION
For the College Group, Sunday morning is our “Day Together.” I propose an experiment. For the next five months, let’s have different members take the responsibility of being worship leaders. Now, before you say, “But I don’t sing” or “I don’t play an instrument” realize that worship is NOT just music. Now that you’ve taken a breath, here’s the deal. The worship leader would plan and run Sunday Gathering, focusing on the three categories listed above: Scripture Reading, Prayer, Song (not necessarily in that order).
The discussion continues…

TRUE SPIRITUALITY?
Mark 1:1-20
Jesus proves himself faithful to God and shows Satan that despite circumstances, Jesus will not be beat, but will faithfully complete his mission to expand God’s Rule in the world.
The Rule of God—the Kingdom of God—is right here, today, now. Looking around at our world—our churches—it’s often tough to find. Are we missing something? Is there something about Jesus and his Kingdom that has been covered up by all the Jesus-Bible-Prayer stories we’ve all heard? On the other hand, sometimes we do get it.
Think about this:
Where do you see believers “getting the point” of the Rule of God?
Where do you see believers “missing the point” of the Rule of God?
This week we start at Mark 1:21, the story of Jesus’ first demon tromping.
Join us Tuesday at 8 pm in the College Room.

THE STORYLINE READING SCHEDULE
Read through the Storyline of Scripture in 2004.
This week’s reading:
Storyline: Genesis 35-41
Worship and Wisdom: Psalms 15-17
Here are a couple of options:
1. For those with lots of time, hunger, or both, read through all the passages.
2. For those with less time, skim the Storyline passage, pick one story to concentrate on and read that, then read the Worship and Wisdom passages during a personal time with God.
