SERMON NOTES--What God Says About Abortion
HOW SHOULD I LIVE? Part 4
July 30, 2006
Pastor Charlie

What does the Bible say about life in the womb?

1. The unborn are called babies. Luke 1:41; 2:12
2. The unborn are created by God. Psalm 139:13-16
3. The life of the unborn is protected by the same punishment for death as a child or an adult. Exodus 21:22-23
4. In the Bible it says that even unborn children possess distinctive human traits. Psalm 51:5
5. The unborn are said to be known intimately and personally by God, just as He would know any other person. Psalm 139:16
6. The unborn can be called by God, even before birth. Genesis 25:22-23; Isaiah 49:1, 5

Summary
If God has a plan for the fetus’s life;
If the fetus is personally known by God;
If the fetus possess human traits;
If God’s law treats a fetus as a human being – with punishment of death if killed;
If the fetus is created by God;
And if God uses the same term for the fetus as he does for a newborn;
Then it is reasonable and accurate to say God views the fetus as a life, just like He views any other human being.

What does the Bible say about our bodies? 1 Corinthians 6:19
Principle #1 – As believers we do not own our own bodies – God owns them.
Principle #2 – As believers our aim is to bring honor to God in what we do with our bodies.

Do we have a right, as a believer, to tell others what they should do with their bodies?
How do I now come to terms with some of my choices?

Psalm 51
1. Begin with a request for mercy according to God's love. (v. 1)
2. Confess your sin openly to God. (v. 3, 4)
3. Ask for renewal as you ask for forgiveness. (v .7-9, 10-12)
4. Tell others of what God has done for you. (v.13)

SERMON NOTES--What God Says About Sex
HOW SHOULD I LIVE?
July 23, 2006
Pastor Charlie

SEX IS GOOD, AFTER ALL GOD CREATED IT. Genesis 2:21-24; Genesis 1:27

SEX IS A GIFT FROM GOD.

GOD HAS SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS ON THE USE OF HIS GIFT.

1. Use only in the context of a man and a woman who have a life-long commitment to each other that has been sealed through marriage. Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:8-9
* God limits sex in this way because it creates a special bond between two people. 1 Corinthians 6:16; 7:3-5
* God limits sex in this way because when we break a bond we create a wound. Genesis 2:24

2. Avoid sexual immorality. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 6:9-11

3. Honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:1-20

How to Take Sexual Sin Seriously 2 Timothy 2:22
* Run away from lust.
* Run towards faith, love and peace.
* Run with others of pure heart.

TANGENTRIDER BLOG--Who are you?

This is a very complicated question. There are clues, of course: how you learn, what you like, what you are good at, what gets you fired up, your family, your culture, your choices. Here's the deal: knowing who you are --really knowing it--gives a person great strength.

So, take steps to find out. Learn your stories. Talk to people. Try things on for size. Do some self-reflection (like the VARK). Be who you are. But--and this is huge--do not expect the world to cater to your personal style. It will not happen. It should not happen. So, learn to communicated--really communicate--with people who are nothing like you. For Christians, this is a command. We are not one because of our similarities. We are one because we trust and follow Christ. We will be living together for eternity, so why not start getting along--and, hello, loving each other--right now.

We are all different. the "sanpshot" below is a bit of evidence. Because we learn differently, sometimes we will have a hard time communicating. Decide now to work through that. There will also be times when the teaching will not be the most helpful for your particular learning style. Sometimes life is like that. Take some responsibility and learn to translate for yourself. Each of us is responsible before God for our spiritual growth. True, teachers carry some responsibility for their students, but this does not excuse the students. So, if, I the teacher, am primarily visual--and I am--that means I need aural, read/write, and kinesthetic learners to help me translate what I teach (hint, hint). If you are willing, comment, email, call. Step up to the plate, tfb collegians.

SERMON NOTES--Key Questions for Morality
HOW SHOULD I LIVE? Part 1
July 9, 2006
Pastor Charlie

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him. For everything that is in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires will pass away but the man who does the will of God lives forever”

WHAT IS MY STANDARD FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG?
Option #1 – you choose an external authority. Exodus 23:2; Romans 121:2
option #2 – you choose an internal authority
(1) This is a poor choice because you have limited perspective.
(2) This is a poor choice because your heart is deceptive. Jeremiah 17:9; Proverbs 14:12
Option #3 – you choose an eternal authority Jude 1: 25; 2 Timothy 3:16

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG?
1. The Bible says that there is a right and wrong and God gave us the responsibility to choose. Genesis 2:16,17
2. The Bible says you will be blessed when you choose right over wrong. Proverbs 3:13-14
3. The Bible says that the choices you make, right or wrong, impact others. Proverbs 11:11; Proverbs 28:2
4. The Bible says that each of us intuitively knows right from wrong and God will hold us accountable for our choices. Romans 2:12,15

HOW DO I START TO LIVE RIGHTLY? Hebrews 5:14; James 1:21

HOW TO LOVE OTHERS BY HELPING THEM LIVE RIGHTLY
* You love others when you are a prophet. “This is what the Lord says…”
* You love others when you are a priest.
* You love others when you are a partner.Galatians 6:1; Philippians 1:10
