2007 GLOBAL PROJECT: We're buying a farm for Christmas!

Goal: $2470
So far:

What do you get when you give two pigs, two alpacas, two sheep, two cows, and two goats? The satisfaction of providing new hope and lasting impact for up to 10 families in need around the world! These farm animals will bring smiles to the faces of moms and dads who will be able to feed their children and increase their family incomes, thanks to you. The next best thing to seeing a child milk, shear, or care for one of these animals is to share the joy of this gift with someone close to your heart.

Save your pocket change (even the paper kind!)
and bring it to Collegium or Tuesday Night Bible Study each week.

SERMON NOTES--Genesis: THE FLOOD
The Foundation, Part 4
Genesis 6-9
March 25, 2007
Pastor Charlie

WHY THE FLOOD?

Cain and Abel - Genesis 4: 6-8
Condition of everyone’s heart – Genesis 6:5

Event #1: Noah builds an ark – THE POWER OF OBEDIENCE (6:8-22)
* Noah was righteous.
* Noah was blameless.
* Noah walked with God.

EVENT #2: NOAH ENTERS THE ARK – THE POWER OF TRUST (7:1-16)
* The flood was real. Matthew 24:37-39
* The flood was universal. Isaiah 54:9
o The animals all fit, 2 Peter 3:5-7
- 17,500 species, two of each = 35,000, double for extinct species = 70,000; add 5,000 for extra animals to sacrifice;
- total animals on the ark, around 75,000.
- Ark size – 450 feet by 75 feet wide by 45 feet high
- Gives it a capacity of 522 livestock railroad cars,
- if average size of animal is a sheep.
- 240 sheep per livestock car = 125,000 animals
- 125,000 animals could fit on the ark.

Principles of divine judgment:
* God’s judgment is never arbitrary.
* God always warns of His judgment.
* God always grants time for repentance. 2 Peter 3:9-10
* God always keeps His word.

EVENT #3: NOAH ON THE ARK – THE POWER OF FAITHFULNESS Hebrews 11:6-7

EVENT #4: Noah CAme out of the ark – THE POWER OF WORSHIP (8:15-9:17)
* Noah builds an altar.
* God makes a rainbow (9:12).

EVENT #5: NOAH GETS DRUNK – THE REALITY OF HUMAN SINFULNESS (9:20-23)
* Our sins do not remove our victories.
* Our victories do not remove our sins.

SERMON NOTES--Genesis: The Fall, part 3
Genesis 3-4
Pastor Charlie

Review:
CREATION (1-2)
FALL (3, 4)
FLOOD (6-9)
TOWER (11)
PATRIARCHS (12-50)
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph

WHAT LEADS TO SIN, Genesis 3:1-6

“…but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death” (James 1:14-15, NIV).

* Doubt - “Did God really say…”
* Deception – “You will not surely die…” “You will be like God….”
* DESIRE - “When the woman saw…”
* DECISION - “she took some and ate it…and he ate it” Romans 5:14
* DEATH: Spiritually, they died; Physically, they started to die. Romans 5:12, 14

OUR RESPONSE TO SIN, Genesis 3:7-13

* Shame – so we cover up
* Fear – so we hide, John 3:20
* Guilt – so we blame others

GOD’S QUESTIONS, Genesis 3:9-11

* Where are you?
* Who do you believe?
* What have you done?

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NIV).

THE IMPACT OF SIN, Genesis 3:14-20

* The Relationship with God is broken resulting in separation of mankind from their creator.
* The Process of decay and death begins resulting in mankind toiling while on earth and life ending in death.
* The Disease of sin infects the whole human race resulting in a hopeless state of sinfulness.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, NIV).

GOD’S RESPONSE OF GRACE TO MANKIND’S FALL, Genesis 3:21-24

* God made them garments.
* God banned them from the garden.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6, NIV).

Pastor Charlie

CREATION (1,2)
FALL (3,4)
FLOOD (6-9)
TOWER (11)
PATRIARCHS (12-50)
Abraham
Isaac
Jacob
Joseph

Our role in God’s creation
* We were created to reflect God’s image (1:26).
* We were created to rule over God’s creation (1:28). Psalm 8:3-6

God’s image seen is us
* Personality – a mind, will and emotions
* Sexuality – male and female (v. 27)

Why is this emphasized?
* God is declaring that neither the male nor the female is of more value than the other.
* We need each other, male and female, to fully experience and display the image of God

+ Morality – a conscience discerning right from wrong
+ Spirituality – an ability to relate to God

God creating us from dirt (2:7) Psalm 103:13-14
God-given opportunities and responsibilities
* God gave to Adam a garden - Eden. (2:8, 9).

The word Eden means “delight.” Revelation 2:7; 22:1-2
* God gave Adam a command.
* God gave Adam a wife - Eve.
o to provide companionship
o to provide partnership
o to provide a God-designed match

God’s image in our lives Colossians 1:15-16; Romans 8:29
