TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY

This week we’ll study Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

Spend at least fifteen minutes reading over the passage before Tuesday.

The YAM blog (a log-in journaling place for YAM) is currently out of commission, so for now the bible study summary will be at http://torrancefirstyam.blogspot.com/. If you would like to join the YAM blog (when it’s back up), send an email to lkspringer@msn.com.

Summary for January 14, 2003 2 Timothy 3:10-17

Persecution isn't something extraordinary; it is a logical consequence of following Jesus. So, in a world where the enemies of Jesus spread deception and persecute Christ-followers, we must know and be convinced of God's truth in Scripture. We must continue in this truth. Scripture speaks God's words and Scripture is able to teach us the knowledge and skills, to convey disapproval when we don't measure up, to remove the errors and mistakes, and to coach us into a Christ-mode of behavior. Scripture makes us adequate for the task. Scripture equips us for the struggle. Paul says that persecution is inevitable for those who seek godliness, but Christians in America seem fairly comfortable and safe.

In what ways are we not seeking godliness?

RESOURCES FOR LIVING OUT THE LESSON

More on Islamfrom Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry

Islam is one of the three largest religions in the world. What does it teach? Is it true? Is it an offshoot of Christianity or Judaism or is it something new and different? Islam is growing, a bit complex, and the Christian needs to know about it and what Islam teaches.

Awesome Books

Bruce & Stan’s Guide to CULTS, RELIGIONS, & SPIRITUAL BELIEFS

By Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz with Dr. Craig Hazen, Biola University

Bruce & Stan’s Guide is a reader-friendly book that covers One-God religions, blended beliefs, philosophical religions, and no God beliefs. This is a great resource, priced at around $12.

In his sermon on Sunday, January 5, Dr. Dale Salico mentioned a couple of good resources in service this morning. Both books are by Lee Strobel, and run around $12 each.

YAM Ad

YAMs is back, but...

...it's moved and it's meatier!

YAM Tuesdays, 8-9:30 pm, in the new, improved YAM room (same location, but check out the new décor!)

This is NOT a no-strings-attached, "whatever" bible study. This is BIBLE STUDY.

First, it's BIBLE. If we really believe that the Bible is God's word, then we ought to hunger for it, like soldiers in the field hunger for letters from home.

Second, it's about STUDY. Now, this isn't school--and it won't be like school. School is about earth-stuff. The Bible is about heaven-stuff. It's a whole different ball of wax.

So if you're hungry for something a bit meatier... if you're willing to dig in, with heart and brain... if you are willing to put God's Word to the test and see if it's true... then this is for you.
