NUGGETS FROM THE SDGs

The Gathering… What not to wear, Part Two

Why did you choose the clothes you’re wearing right now? It may be that they were the only clean clothes, or that they fit, but somewhere down there, you are wearing these clothes because they fit your style. They fit who you are. This is a picture of the very issue Paul talks about in Colossians 3:1-17—since we are spiritual, what does it take to be truly spiritual?

Read thru the section and, as you read each paragraph, search for clues to answer the question: What does it take to be truly spiritual?

3:1-4
3:5-8
3:9-11
3:12-15
3:16-17

Now, take a look at the clues you found. How would you answer that question?
Have you ever known anyone who was truly spiritual? What is it about that person that shows you they are truly spiritual?

Going Deeper
Start reading through the letter to the Colossians, reading about a paragraph each day. After you read, spend a few minutes talking with God about what you’ve read. You may want to keep a journal of your discoveries and questions.

Culture Assignment:
What would you know about spirituality if movies and television were your only source of information?

TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY-- The Kingdom of Heaven is like… (starting this week)

Tuesday, October 7, we joined Pastor Charlie, Pastor Rog, and Bob Frueholtz (sp?) to talk about the new Mission-Vision-Values document the church leadership is working on. There was a good discussion. Yammies included Jonathan P, Danny S, Jon G, and Laura Sp. If you haven't read the document and had your say, there is still time. Pick up a copy, then send an email to Pastor Charlie. Afterall, the church is all of us together!

God is expanding his kingdom, but what, exactly, is his kingdom? October 14 we start a new series looking at the Kingdom parables in Matthew’s gospel. Prepare by looking up “kingdom of God” and kingdom of heaven” in a concordance (you can use http://www.biblegateway.com), skimming though some of the passages, and defining “kingdom”—you might want to check the American Heritage Dictionary too

YAM SERVICE TEAM— we have three on the team, how about you…

Unlike the 'essay test' version, this one is more like short answer. Since we are already in October, let me know ASAP. Please answer all three questions.

1. Are you interested in serving on YAM leadership (commitment is three months--oct-dec--with an opportunity to renew)

2. Why?

3. When should we meet? (answer: NO, AM, NOON, PM) --we'll probably meet formally once a month and informally whenever--but this can change if the leadership decides.

Sunday?
Monday?
Tuesday?
Wednesday?
Thursday?
Friday?
Saturday?
