COLLEGIUM--Prep Instructions

Collegium: what is it?

Dictionary.com: A group whose members pursue shared goals while working within a framework of mutual trust and respect.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary: A group in which each member has approximately equal power and authority


Shared Goals:

  1. Know the story
  2. Be the people
  3. Expand the kingdom

Mutual trust and respect:
  1. Listening
  2. Speaking
  3. Questioning
  4. Coming prepared

Equal power and authority:
  1. Responsible to share what we know
  2. Responsible to clarify what we do not understand
  3. Responsible to challenge what does not square up
  4. Responsible to look at process and work together to make the Collegium better
Prep Tracks:
  1. Track One: Read through 1 John over and over.
  2. Track Two: Lectio on the passage for the week, making notes on what God teaches and how he wants us to respond

Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading)

  1. Lectio--Reading, listening to the passage slowly, listening for the voice of God
  2. Meditatio--Meditation, thinking about the passage (like a cow chewing its cud)
  3. Oratio--Prayer, talking with God about the passage and how God wants us to respond
  4. Contemplatio--Contemplation, resting in God's presence
