STUDYING ROMANS WITH PASTOR CHARLIE

The Christian View of Life, Part 32
HOW TO BUILD UP OTHERS
or
HOW NOT TO CAUSE ANOTHER CHRISTIAN TO STUMBLE
Romans 14:13-15:13

RECOGNIZE THAT YOUR ACTIONS AFFECT OTHERS (v. 13).
My actions could cause other believers to stumble (v. 13).
My actions could cause other believers to be distressed (v. 15).
My actions could cause other believers to be destroyed (v. 15).

COMMIT YOURSELF TO BUILDING UP OTHERS (v. 13).
APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF EACH PERSON (v. 15).

KEEP YOUR FOCUS ON WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT (v. 16).
Proverbs 6:16, 19
Titus 3:10, 11

LIMIT YOUR LIBERTY OUT OF LOVE FOR OTHERS (v. 20).
It is wrong when it violates a clear standard of the Bible.
It is wrong when I know to do good but don’t do it.
James 4:17
It is wrong when I am not sure if it is right, but I do it anyway (v. 23).
It is wrong when I cause a believer to go against their conscience.
1 Corinthians 8:9-12
1 Corinthians 10:23, 24
Galatians 5:13

KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF (v. 22).
Romans 12:18

MAINTAIN A CLEAR CONSCIENCE (v. 23).

PUT THE GOOD OF OTHERS BEFORE YOURSELF (15:1, 2).
Romans 15:5

HOW DO YOU NURTURE YOUR SOUL?

NURTURE
See the Discussion Blog for more.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO NURTURE YOUR SOUL?

Here are some suggestions from the Sunday Gathering:

Search the bible for a “verse of the day/week” and post it in a public place.
Practice giving and encourage others to give.
Pray.
Study the Bible or different topics.
Have a regular devotional time.
Spend time in nature.
Read Christian books—fiction or non-fiction.
Listen to the Radio and CDs.

WHY IS IT HARD TO FIT GOD INTO OUR SCHEDULE?

Nurturing your soul requires time.
Nurturing your soul requires focused thought.
Nurturing your soul requires effort.

WHY IS NURTURE IMPORTANT?

First, because Jesus is worth it.
Second, because we need it.
Third, because it’s our responsibility.
Fourth, because unchurched people expect us to be holy—and they’re right!
