STUDYING ROMANS WITH PASTOR CHARLIE

The Christian View of Life, part 33
KEYS TO AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY
Romans 15:14-33

Major theme divisions in the book of Romans:

Sin: Why do I need Christ in my life? Why do I need to be Saved? 1:18-3:20

Salvation: How can I be saved? 3:21-5

Sanctification: How do I grow up after I’m a Christian? 6-8

Sovereignty: God’s sovereign work in salvation and how Israel’s fits into that work: 9-11

Service: What do I do after I’m saved? 12:1-15:13
KEYS TO AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS BASED ON GOD’S GRACE (v.14-15)
John 15:16

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS BUILT ON GOD’S WORD (v.16)
Acts 20:32
Romans 1:16,17
2 Timothy 3:16,17

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS OPERATED FOR GOD’S GLORY (v.17-18)

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS PERFORMED IN GOD’S POWER (v.19)
John 15:5
Zachariah 4:6

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS PLANNED ACCORDING TO GOD’S PURPOSES (v.20).

PROVERBS ON PLANNING FROM THE LIVING BIBLE:
"We should make our plans counting on God to direct us." Proverbs 16:9

"We can make plans but the final outcome is in God's hands." Proverbs 16:1

"Any enterprise is built by wise planning, becomes strong through common sense ,and profits wonderfully by keeping abreast of the facts." Proverbs 24:3,4

"A wise man thinks ahead, a fool doesn't and even brags about it." Proverbs 13:16

"A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences." Proverbs 22:3

"A sensible man watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them. The simpleton never looks and suffers the consequences." Proverbs 27:12

"A wise man is cautious and avoids danger. A fool plunges ahead with great confidence." Proverbs 14:16

"It is dangerous and sinful to rush into the unknown." Proverbs 19:2

"The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won't face facts."
Proverbs 14:8

PROVERBS ON DECISION MAKING FROM THE LIVING BIBLE

"What a shame, yes, how stupid to decide before knowing the facts." Proverbs 18:13

"We toss the coin but it is the Lord who controls the decision." Proverbs 16:33

"It is pleasant to see plans develop, that's why fools refuse to give them up even when they're wrong." Proverbs 13:19

AN EFFECTIVE MINISTRY IS SUPPORTED BY GOD’S PEOPLE
Supported financially by generous giving (v.25)
Supported spiritually by faithful praying (v.30)

THE GOOD NEWS ACCORDING TO ROMANS

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (3:23)

“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (5:8).

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (6:23)

“If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (10:9).

HOW DO YOU NURTURE YOUR SOUL?

See the Discussion Blog http://tfbyam.blogspot.com for more.

Is it important to nurture your faith? Why?

How do you nurture your faith? Here are a few ways we thought of today:
Pray often
Witness/lifestyle
Help thy neighbor
Christian music/worship/shows
Outreach
Accountability
Set a "God alarm' on your watch
Potluck
Bible study
Look at pretty stuff

Quick Scripture study (to nurture our souls):

Matthew 21:23-32

Authority Challenged, verses 23-27

Parable of Two Sons, verses 28-32

Closing:
John 8:31-33

Once you’ve thought about some ways to nurture your soul, work on developing discipline to make it a regular part of your life.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27

As with virtually anything in life, whether it be a garden, our bodies, relationships with friends and family, our spiritual relationship with God, it requires desire and effort on our part. The more worthwhile the enterprise, the greater our desire and effort should be.

NEXT WEEK: Nurturing our Faith (Souls) continues, read Ephesians 6:10-20.
Read with passion!
