Tuesday Gathering: November: A People of the Table
The Doctrine of the Trinity is confusing. How can God be one God and Three persons? Plus, even if we can get a hold on the idea of the Trinity, what does it have to do with following Jesus day after day? Starting in November, the Tuesday Gathering will be considering the amazing truth about relationship, following Jesus, and theology.
For those wanting to go deeper:

Others are new to the journey and have fresh eyes and fresh wonder.
Yet we are fellow travelers.

The Book of Revelation, part 11

THE WEDDING CELEBRATION

Revelation 19:7-9 Genesis 2:24
  • God is pictured as Israel’s husband.Isaiah 54:5; Hosea 2:19-20
  • Jesus is pictured as the church’s husband.Ephesians 5:25-27

Stages of a Jewish wedding:

  • Stage #1 - the parents of the groom choose the bride and then negotiate for the bride with the bride’s family.
  • Stage #2 - the couple is pledged to one another for one year.
  • Stage #3 - the marriage ceremony makes them officially married.

Stages of Jesus’ wedding:

  • Stage #1 – God chooses us to be Jesus’ bride. John 6:44; Romans 8:28-30
  • Stage #2 - we say yes and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior becoming officially pledge to Him.

- United with Christ
  • We are crucified with Christ – Galatians 2:20.
  • We died with Christ – Colossians 2:20.
  • We are buried with Christ – Romans 6:4.
  • We are made alive with Christ – Ephesians 2:5.
  • We are raised with Christ – Colossians 3:1.
  • We will suffer with Christ – Romans 8:17.
  • We are glorified with Christ – Romans 8:17.
  • We are joint heirs with Christ – Romans 8:17.
  • Adopted into God’s family Ephesians 1:5
  • Clothed in Righteousness
  • Clothed with the righteous acts of Jesus Romans 3:21-22
  • Clothed with our own acts of righteousness Ephesians 2:10
  • Jesus prepares a home for us – John 14:1-6.

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

When will Jesus return? Answer: only God knows Matthew 24:36

Who did Jesus come as? Matthew 1:21; Matthew 20:28 Answer: Jesus came as the Savior who paid the ransom for our sins.

Who will Jesus come as?
  • Jesus comes riding a white horse.
  • Jesus comes in victory.
  • Jesus is called Faithful and True.
  • Jesus comes fulfilling God’s promise.
  • Jesus is called the Word of God. John 1:1-2
  • Jesus comes in power and authority.
  • Jesus is called the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
  • Jesus wears many crowns on His head. John 18:33-37; Philippians 2:9-11
  • Jesus comes to reign as King over all.
  • Jesus is clothed with a robe dipped in blood.
  • Jesus comes as righteous judge.

Why a thousand year reign of Christ? Answer: The thousand-year reign of Christ on this earth shows once and for all the true nature of sin.

THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT
Revelation 20:11-15

Probably only for non-believers because…
  • Jesus taught us that believers in Christ have been given eternal life, have escaped the judgment of God and have passed from death to life. John 5:24
  • The Bible clearly teaches that our eternal destiny is not dependent on our works, but our faith in Jesus. Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 6:23

“The Book of Life contains the names of all who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. The other books contain a detailed record of the works of the unsaved. No one who appears at this judgment is registered in the Book of Life. The fact that his name is missing condemns him, but the record of his evil works determines the degree of his punishment.” Bible Believers Commentary by William MacDonald


A Picture of Jesus:
In the Wedding, Jesus is the Groom.
In the Second Coming, Jesus is the Lord.
In the Millennium, Jesus is the King.
At the Great White Throne, Jesus is the Judge.
